The Sweetest Kind
03:41
|
|||
I’ve got loving, I’ve got loving on my mind.
I’ve got loving, babe, I’ve got loving on my mind.
I’ve got a girl coming by to see me,
And I tell you boys, she’s got the sweetest kind.
I’ve got a good thing, I’ve got a good thing going on.
I’ve got a good thing, I’ve got a good thing going on.
When she lays her head beside me,
I get to feeling like I’m living in an old love song.
She’s got a real fine car, brother it’ll go real fast.
She’s got a real fine car, brother it’ll go real fast.
If I don’t misbehave she’ll let me drive it,
And she’ll pay for the gas.
She don’t care if I stay out all night.
She don’t care if I stay out all night.
When I come home in the wee hour,
I always know she’s gonna leave me on a light.
I’ve got a good thing, I’ve got a good thing going on.
I’ve got a good thing, I’ve got a good thing going on.
When she lays her head beside me,
I get to feeling like I’m living in an old love song.
I’ve got loving, I’ve got loving on my mind.
I’ve got loving, babe, I’ve got loving on my mind.
I’ve got a girl coming by to see me,
And I tell you boys, you aught to see it,
I tell you boys, I would not lie,
I tell you boys, she’s got the sweetest kind.

Cold grey salty water, it laps around my feet.
On a broken seashell highway where the land and ocean meet
And I’m wondering if it chills your heart the way its chilling mine.
A few more hundred miles of driving and we could share a little time.
There’s nothing, nothing but the Carolinas to keep you from my arms.
I’ll drive westward in the morning, through the cities and the pines.
Flying high just like some road-dog, trying to keep myself in line.
Trying to keep my mind on anything but the days that I’ve been counting,
And the days I’ve left to count with you in mind.
There’s nothing, nothing but the Carolinas to keep you from my arms.
I’d swim across the rivers cold, I’d climb the mountains high.
I’d beat a man to death even if he’s twice my size.
I’d claw my way up solid stone until my fingers turn to bone,
Because my heart is waiting on the other side.
I know you’re coming back to me, I know you’re coming home.
I know the day will come when I won’t have to be alone.
I know it in my heart and as I stare out at the sea,
For in my mind there’s nothing in this world but you and me.

Sardis Pass
03:15
|
|||
I wondered on the edge of a life set in motion
For a year once just to say I tried.
I helped a friend pull out of an unpleasant situation
But then I lost ‘em, in a battle with my pride.
It was a battle that I’d lost many times.
But then a friend gave me some good advice,
He said you’re reading in too deeply.
If you look, there’s always something there to find.
Don’t think it, just feel it, and if you can’t feel it just play,
There’s only one to blame for all your wasted time,
And he’s living there inside of your own mind.
Through Sardis Pass we wondered, I drove while you got high.
We put our heads together and we put ourselves inside
each others shoes, I saw your world
And I hope that you saw mine.
There the water’s cool, and the sun forever shines.
It’s true, of course that all good things take tender time and patience,
And cause you to evaluate your life.
And people mostly see themselves through the lens of god’s creation,
And miss the golden points he’s left to find.
We wallow in the muck of modern life.

Lungs
04:12
|
|||
Wont you lend your lungs to me,
Mine are collapsing.
I’ll plant my feet and bitterly
Breathe up the time that’s passing.
Breath I’ll take, and breath I’ll give,
And pray the day’s not poison.
Stand among the ones who live
In lonely indecision
Fingers walked the darkness down
Her mind is on the midnight.
Gather up the gold you’ve found,
You fool its only moonlight.
And if you stop to take it home,
Your hands will turn to butter.
Better leave this dream alone,
And try to find another.
Salvation sat and crossed herself
She called the devil partner.
Wisdom burned upon a shelf
Who’ll kill the raging cancer.
Seal the river at it’s mouth,
Take the water prisoner.
Fill the Skys with screams and cries
And bathe in fiery answer.
Jesus was an only sun,
And love his only concept.
Strangers cry in foreign tongues
And dirty up your doorstep.
And I for one, and you for two,
Ain’t got the time for outside.
Keep your injured looks to you
And we’ll tell the world that we tried.
Wont you lend your lungs to me,
Mine are collapsing.
I’ll plant my feet and bitterly
Breathe up the time that’s passing.
Breath I’ll take, and breath I’ll give,
And pray the day’s not poison.
Stand among the ones who live
In lonely

Bind and Bury
05:51
|
|||
There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do.
There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t give to you.
And if I ever try to hide, won’t you bind me where the lightning strikes,
And bury me in the pouring rain.
I guess it ain’t your fault you’ve got to lie.
Sometimes I think the pain is only in my mind.
But if I ever had the power to take your world and turn it ‘round,
I’d take my turn and I’d rearrange our fate.
Remember the clouds in the sky.
Remember the love that’s in the eyes of everyone you’ve ever known.

Great Divide
04:42
|
|||
This morning they found the pictures,
Gonna blow the whole thing out the water,
I was still trying to wake up from a dream.
We all got up and went back to work,
Like nothing even happened,
Just another talking face on a screen.
Someone set fire to the motherland,
It’s burning own the mountain,
Dumping ashes down the river into the sea.
Some people saying its the hand of god,
Some say it’s our own doing.
Then they say with a straight face, don’t point your finger at me.
Got to find a way to keep it all together
In the land of broken dreams.
Got to find a way across this great divide
And when your fears get the best of you
You must refuse, you must refuse.
I’m not the one to point the finger.
I’m no the one to bring you down.
But, how long will this bad luck linger?
How long will we be afraid to break off from the crowd?
Got to find a way to keep it all together
In the land of broken dreams.
Got to find a way across this great divide
And when your fears get the best of you
You must refuse, you must refuse.

Yourself Again
04:14
|
|||
The light came as I was trying to sleep,
I had a pistol laying by my feet.
It’d been six months since I’d had me a job,
And I was living off of the fools I could rob.
She said some people let it go to their head,
You’d better count yourself a lucky man.
You got out of the race just in time
To avoid the crash.
Take a look at the sky, boy.
You could ride the wind.
If you open your mind you’re sure to find yourself again.
Remember whatever happens, this is never the end.
If you open your mind you’re sure to find yourself,
Your mind is sure to find yourself again.
So I packed up all I’d stolen
In the pocket of my sweater,
I made a phone call to a friend back east
And then I hopped aboard a train.
And I drank from the cup that they gave me,
And I took a drink from my own.
And I wrote down all the words they had to say.
Take a look at the sky, boy.
You could ride the wind.
If you open your mind you’re sure to find yourself again.
Remember whatever happens, this is never the end.
If you open your mind you’re sure to find yourself,
Your mind is sure to find yourself again.
So I did my very best to break
The chains of my own retention,
And to my great surprise I found
A lock to fit the key.
And the words spewed from my tongue
Were like a sun defrosting winter,
And I feel down as if in rapture
Upon my knees.
Take a look at the sky, boy.
You could ride the wind.
If you open your mind you’re sure to find yourself again.
Remember whatever happens, this is never the end.
If you open your mind you’re sure to find yourself,
Your mind is sure to find yourself again.

Postcards from Romm
03:34
|
|||
Light up a fire, won’t you sing me all you’re new songs?
It’s been too long since I’ve heard you play.
It seems there’s no-one in the world that knows
Where to find what you’re after
I see it in your eyes my friend.
Ain’t it good to be home again?
Do all our faces look the same?
While you were gone did you ever think of me?
‘cause I thought about you every day.
Did you expect to find a city cold and lonesome,
Where the people stare and slowly turn to grey?
Were you surprised to find a love that flows like a river,
And keeps filling up your cup?
Is it enough to get you high my friend?
Ain’t it good to be home again?
Do all our faces look the same?
While you were gone did you ever think of me?
‘cause I thought about you every day.
I think of your little room,
I think of the forests in full bloom,
I think of the words we tried to say.
Out of all of us I think that you should know,
There’s words to find in every picture frame.

Nevada
03:45
|
|||
There’s nothing hidden in the Rocky Mountains that’ll take your pain away.
There’s nothing in a patch of frozen desert that will help you run from fate.
For we were bound together by the thunder of a cold and stormy January night.
I believe you may have tried, but all your crying won’t make what’s wrong turn right.
So hold on to your only true tradition, go ahead boy, run away.
Just remember that a lie by omission’s still a lie, just the same.
There’s nothing hidden in these old pecan trees that’s gonna help me understand.
I guess I’ve waited now too long to ever ask you if you’d like to change your plans.
So now you come to me in dreams like memories I wake and they all fall to sand.
And I’d eat crow with a smile on my face if you’d show me how to be a man.

Rise River Rise
04:46
|
|||
Theres a river near my mother, and the water moves so slow.
You can bury me on that hillside where the purple flowers grow.
It was there I learned the secrets that were whispered through the pines,
In a language built on broke down cars consumed by kudzu vines.
There was magic in the water.
There was magic in the air.
There was music in the garden and
Cigarette smoke in our hair.
Theres a hollow in Smith County
Where the keys mill creek still flows.
It was there that Cecil built his farm
When he got back from Tokyo.
There was magic in the water.
There was magic in the air.
There was music in the garden and
Cigarette smoke in our hair.
